One more person was killed in the violence during the three-tier panchayat elections in West Bengal. His name is Sheikh Musallam.

Indian Secular Front (ISF) workers have been accused of assaulting Sheikh Musallam, a resident of Kathalia, Bhangarh, South 24 Parganas.

Family members have told that Sheikh Musallam was beaten with sticks and iron rods by ISF workers who surrounded the road on the night of July 7 before the polling. He died in the hospital on Friday night.

It is notable that since the announcement of elections, Bhangar of South 24 Parganas has been the most affected by violence. Naushad Siddiqui, the local MLA from here, was not allowed to enter the area at the time of the election. Section 144 is still in force.

On Friday, he was trying to go to his constituency. Police stopped them on the way. Now after the death of a Trinamool Congress worker, there is renewed tension.

With this, the death toll during the 37 days of the panchayat elections increased to 53.
